What is the Klipsch RP-600M Speaker?
A good loudspeaker is expected to reproduce the original soundtrack in every note with negligible distortion. It should cover all of the frequency ranges in the human audible hearing range. For 70 years, Klipsch has been designing all of its products in-house by the most passionate designers in the industry.
The Klipsch RP-600M is an affordable bookshelf speaker.
This speaker offers the famous Klipsch sound quality. It is a highly efficient and highly sensitive loudspeaker.
Design, Features, And Build
For a bookshelf speaker, the Klipsch RP-600M is a medium to prominent size speaker. The speaker measures 16” in height, 12” in-depth, and 8 inches in width. Hence, although they might fit nicely on a substantial-sized bookcase, they will most probably be kept on a set of speaker stands.
As speakers in the market, the Klipsch RP-600M speaker is a 2-way speaker design. It has a woofer that measures 6.5 inches and a tweeter that measures 1 inch.
However, when you purchase the Klipsch speaker, you get a Tractrix design tweeter and not just a regular tweeter. These speakers are available to buy in both the Ebony and the walnut finishes. There is a piano finish that is available as an option.
The aesthetic of this speaker is pretty well thought of by the team. The Tractrix horn has been accented with copper so that it matches the copper finish of the woofers.
The quality of the Klipsch RP-600M build is excellent considering the price it is offered at.
Features concerning the technology
The RP-600M is designed with the four pillars of the Klipsch company.
Klipsch makes use of the pillar-controlled directivity in the design of the tweeter.
Why does this matter?
Suppose you listen to sounds from speakers outside without any walls, over a 10’ tall stand this wouldn’t be very important, as sound cannot bounce off anything. But when we consider a regular room with walls, sound bounces off surfaces.
Some sounds will reach your ear from the speakers directly, and those frequencies that reached you have actually bounced off walls and then reached you. The sonic character of the sound gets affected when it bounces off surfaces. It also causes a delay in the sound.
Using horn technology, you can control the dispersion pattern of most high frequencies.
There is a new design known as the magnet structure and tweeter housing that uses venting technology to reduce any kind of standing waves present at the back of the tweeter.
The diaphragm made of Titanium metal is housed in such a way that it forces it to have a piston-like motion. Klipsch had first begun this in the more expensive speakers that they sold known as Linear Travel Suspension.
Since Titanium is very lightweight, it moves easily like a piston; the distortion is less when compared to many other tweeters in the market. This checks another pillar of the company, called low distortion.
The woofers
The woofers used with the RP-600M are Cerametallic woofers that measure six and a half inches. They are stiff and rigid, being an excellent material of choice considering low distortion as a requirement.
This tech is patented by the company Klipsch, and you may find this technology in other speakers. There are many layers of metal over the cone that led it to be stiff. This is great as it avoids breakup. The mix-up of materials leads to the driver’s regular breakup point to the point that is pretty far from the frequency that it works in.
Hence, the woofer plays at a level that is louder but with less amount of breakup.
For reducing the cabinet resonance, Klipsch incorporates a technique or method that many expensive speakers use. The front portion of the cabinet is not made of wood. Instead, it is made of an inert and dense substance.
The drivers are connected to this inert material, which helps to reduce the cabinet resonance.
With every speaker model, they aim to make a port for reducing turbulence and accurately match the characteristics of the cabinet’s acoustic traits. When the Cerametallic woofer and the port are combined with the horn tweeter, the last pillar of high efficiency is also checked off the list.
The RP-600M efficiency is rated at 96db, which is pretty high. One can easily drive them with a lesser-powered amp or a receiver and even then have the room around you filled with huge sound.
Performance
We tested them over a Mcintosh stack to know how well the Klipsch speakers sound with a right front end. We tested with various songs. What we concluded is that the RP-600M sounds very good over a setup that is priced moderately. When you move higher in the level of performance, all of the improvements will shine.
The Klipsch RP-600M overall, is a nice speaker. The bass output is amazing for the size that it measures. The sound quality that comes out through these speakers is effortless, which sounds like live music in a concert.
There are speakers in the market that play even bigger, revealing more detail, but non this good for their price. As the tweeter has some directivity, you will need to do the setup carefully. Every speaker needs to be placed at a distance from the rear wall and angled in the same way.
This way, you will get to experience a wide and tall soundstage like the one that we could experience. Another observation is that the speakers performed exceptionally well when placed at a distance of at least 18 inches from the rear wall. It is typical when it comes to bookshelf speakers when placed over a stand.
Suppose you have an equipment cabinet situated in between both your speakers; you can set it up so that the speakers are situated a little ahead of the cabinet. It is a great setup for obtaining excellent results from these speakers.
The stereo imaging with these speakers is not as amazing as a few other speakers in the market. You get a more diffuse sound quality with the Klipsch RP-600M. However, it is more alive in a dynamic fashion.
There can be some hardness in the upper midrange level that can be bothersome to some people with vocals. It depends on the amplifier. If you go ahead with warmer sources and amplifiers, the issue will not come up, and you will think they are unbelievable.

Should You Buy It?
Many speakers in the market can match the price range, but there are not many speakers that can match the deep bass that this speaker produces. These speakers tend to offer an atmosphere like a live performance.
